Some hope California winner of $447M Powerball helps area

California Lottery officials said the retailer where the winning ticket was sold will receive a $1 million "retailer bonus". Otherwise, you're going back to work tomorrow.

A winning ticket for last night's $447.8 million Powerball grand prize was sold in California, according to the lottery.

The earliest the victor could claim their prize was 8 a.m. Sunday; the victor will have one year from the draw date to come forward.

"There was one victor sold by the California Lottery for the last drawing's $447,800,000 grand prize", according to a statement. A spokesperson for the lottery told the Associated Press that it was unknown where in the state the ticket, which matched all six numbers, was sold.

It was not immediately known where the ticket that will claim the 10th largest lottery prize in USA history was sold, according to Powerball spokesman Randy Miller.

"We haven't really talked about it", he said.

The store is located in the midst of Sun City, a retirement community off Interstate 215 in Menifee, about 70 miles north of San Diego.

The winnig numbers, AP said, are 20-26-32-38-58, and the Powerball number is 3.

This year started out tough for Alberre and his father because the father is suffering from pulmonary fibrosis lung disease. The victor will have the option of taking the entire $447.8 million spread out over 30 years or elect to take the lump sum amount of $279.1 million.

The odds of winning are only one in 292.2 million. Both prize amounts would be before taxes are deducted.

Menifee Mayor Neil Winter said he hoped a local resident bought the winning ticket at the store in a heavily visited intersection that has sold winners before but never for so much.

No one has won the jackpot since April 1, thus the reason for its large size.

The 10th largest Powerball drawing was held Saturday night. The Powerball game is played in 44 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.
