Schumer calls for all-senators meeting on health care

Behind closed doors, a group of 13 GOP senators has all but completed work on a Senate substitute.

If the bill passes, Murray said as many as 600,000 Washingtonians might lose their health care coverage.

I met with a few of my Senate colleagues on health care to not only understand where they are at but also to understand where they are going.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell turned down an offer to meet with more than 15 patient advocacy groups to keep the details of his healthcare bill a secret from people with preexisting conditions. Republicans must write the rest of the bill, send the text to the Congressional Budget Office, await the CBO score, and ensure that 50 Republicans stay onboard during the legislation's procedural votes.

The ad campaign also includes radio commercials running in Alaska, Arizona, Nevada and West Virginia that argue the GOP effort will negatively affect seniors.

During a White House meeting this week, Trump privately told Senate Republicans that the House bill was "mean". Graham said, "I just think the House had to pick up the Freedom Caucus votes and they want to control the escalating cost of Medicaid". Another said Trump used a vulgar phrase to describe the House bill and told the senators, "We need to be more generous".

The Senate's decisions could have huge implications: Health care represents about one-sixth of the US economy, and about 20 million people have gained insurance under the 2010 health law, President Barack Obama's signature legislative achievement.

"I hope we shall take warning from the example and crush in it's birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength, and to bid defiance to the laws of their country", Thomas Jefferson said. And they will demand an open process to consider health care when the Senate reconvenes Monday.

Community Catalyst Action Fund, which bills itself as a consumer health organization, is targeting U.S. Sens.

Republicans and Democrats on the Senate appropriations subcommittee grilled Price about the plan to slash billions from many HHS agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health and Medicaid. One reason, as even President Donald Trump this week acknowledged - six weeks after holding a Rose Garden ceremony to celebrate it - is that the House bill is "mean".

In an interview with Reuters last month, McConnell said he did not yet know how he would get enough votes for an Obamacare repeal.

Some of Obamacare's taxes could also be repealed later when Congress tackles new legislation overhauling the US tax code, two current Senate aides said.

The House bill would phase out the Medicaid expansion and the Obamacare subsidies that help people afford coverage. But, Republicans say, Democrats will still be able to offer numerous amendments once the bill is on the Senate floor.

The bill approved 59-32 by the House is expected to raise more than $100 million a year.

Sen. Dick Durbin, (D-Ill.), asked Price if he or anyone on his staff have "seen what they Senate Republicanns are working on".

That this is even a point of contention proves one thing - ignorance of the legislative process.
