Citing unidentified sources, the news station reported that Rosenstein told Brand she would be tasked with the final decisions regarding resources made available for the probe, headed by special counsel and former FBI director Robert Mueller, and whether anyone is prosecuted because of the investigation.
Heck was referring to the growing number of legal teams forming as a result of the special counsel investigation into whether Russian Federation meddled in the 2016 US presidential election.
Earlier, Rosenstein had authored an extensive and publicly-released memorandum recommending former FBI-chief James Comey's firing.
The tweet from Trump, who has complained throughout the week of a "witch hunt" against him, appears to directly target Rosenstein for the first time, who this week said he wouldn't fire Mueller without good cause.
The White House confirmed that Mr. Mueller was among the candidates Mr. Trump interviewed for the Federal Bureau of Investigation post. Rosenstein also approved the appointment of Mueller as special counsel after the recusal of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
Rod Rosenstein, deputy attorney general nominee for US President Donald Trump, listens during a Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing in Washington, DC, US, on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. "Nearly everyone agrees that the Director made serious mistakes; it is one of the few issues that unites people of diverse perspectives", Rosenstein said in his memo. The Justice Department had no comment on Trump's tweet Friday.
The transition order came the same day that Vice-President Mike Pence's confirmed that he had hired a private lawyer to represent his interests in the expanding probe. Joe Lieberman, former Oklahoma Governor Frank Keating, former FBI official Richard McFeely and acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, met with Trump at the White House.
At a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing last week, Coats and Rogers refused to say whether Trump asked them to intervene in the investigation, which is also examining whether the Trump campaign team colluded with Russian Federation during last year's presidential campaign.
Donald Trump took to Twitter Friday to insist that despite months of investigating, no proof has emerged that he colluded with Russian Federation to tilt the 2016 presidential election in his favor. "Witch Hunt", the president wrote in his tweet on Friday.
