Judge Declares Mistrial in Bill Cosby Case

Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial has just ended in a mistrial after jurors were unable to reach a verdict on any of the three sexual assault counts.

But Victoria Valentino, a former Playboy model who has accused Cosby of drugging and raping her decades ago, had a message for him: "You're not off the hook, buddy".

"Do not in any way feel you have let the justice system down", O'Neill told the jury.

Announcing the decision, the Pennsylvania judge reminded Mr Cosby that he remains charged and on bail, despite the mistrial. (More than 50 women have come forward in recent years accusing Cosby of sexual assault.) The prosecution also played a recorded phone call between Cosby and Constand's mother, in which Cosby promised to "set something up" for Constand financially - a promise that district attorney Kevin Steele pointed to as evidence of "consciousness of guilt". However, this trial was the only criminal case brought forward as numerous accusers had reached the statute of limitations.

As news reporters streamed out of the room, several other Cosby accusers, some in tears, waited in line to hug Constand, who smiled broadly and maintained her composure.

But if the man once adored by millions as "America's Dad" escaped conviction Saturday, prosecutor Kevin Steele said that he meant to seek a re-trial as authorized in such cases under the law.

The judge declared a mistrial after jurors deadlocked on the charges after six days.

The Canadian said Cosby gave her three pills and wine before touching her breasts, putting his fingers in her vagina and putting her hand on his erect penis after she sought his advice about moving to Canada and switching careers.

The trial has irrevocably damaged his legacy as a towering figure in U.S. popular culture, once adored for his seminal role as a lovable father and obstetrician on hit TV series "The Cosby Show".

Cosby's wife, Camille Cosby, slammed prosecutors for bringing the case to court.

The Associated Press does not typically identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission, which Constand has done.

But when speaking about her career plans one night at his home, the sweater-wearing actor known as "America's Dad" gave her three blue pills that he said were herbal and would help her relax, she testified. They repeatedly asked a judge for a mistrial on Friday.

"I felt really humiliated and I was really confused", she said through tears.

Outside the courthouse, as Cosby stood silently behind them, members of his team criticized the case against him.

In addition, Constand initially told police that she had not been alone with Cosby prior to the alleged assault and that they had little contact after. Cosby, who is legally blind and carries a cane, has arrived in court each day with someone from the world of entertainment.

After the announcement, Constand's attorney said Constand is ready to testify against Cosby again.

In July 2015, a judge unsealed Cosby's deposition in that 2006 civil lawsuit.

Bill Cosby is back in court for the sixth day of jury deliberations in his sexual assault trial.
