LA City Hall Lights Up Bat-Signal for Adam West

On Thursday, the city of LA is holding a lighting on the skyline with the infamous bat-signal, which originated in the DC Comic Strip as a sign that the heroic Batman was needed.

"I'm here to tell you that my friend Adam would want every single one of you to be incredibly happy and to be joyous", he said.

With its costumed fans and its Bat-Signal lighting, the entire event is a wonderful way to honor the actor who's become one of the most iconic Batman actors in history.

Since the 60s, Batman has morphed into a Hollywood blockbuster franchise with a much darker bent thanks to portrayals by the likes of Christian Bale and Ben Affleck (a transformation West wasn't afraid to say he disliked).

Deadline is reporting that Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and LAPD Chief Charlie Beck are planning to pay a touching tribute of their own.

Adam West entertained both children as well as adults by playing "Batman" on TV. "He loved humanity and he loved his fans", actor Ward said at the tribute. Along with his work as Batman, West also starred films as The Young Philadelphians, Robinson Crusoe on Mars and Redux Riding Hood, while also returning to television to play the role of Mayor of Quahog on Family Guy. Fox has announced that it will be airing episodes of "The Dating Game", which featured West winning an auction.

Seth MacFarlane, who worked with West on Family Guy, also aired his grief.

The ceremony honored Adam West, who played the Caped Crusader in the campy 1960s TV series.

Born in Walla Walla city, Washington, West began his career in the 1950's.

They said in a statement: "Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans" lives. Peacefully surrounded by his family in his Los Angeles home, West is survived by his wife, Marcelle, as well as six children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
