'Dear Evan Hansen' takes home most statuettes at 71st Tony Awards

"Dear Evan Hansen" was called the year's best musical and earned a total of half a dozen Tony awards including a trophy for Rachel Bay Jones, who plays Evan's mom and Ben Platt, who stars as her son.

Midler, who won the Best Actress in a Musical award for her performance as Dolly Gallagher Levi in the Broadway revival of Hello, Dolly!

For gratitude, no one topped best actress victor Bette Midler, who, at age 70, finally won her first Tony for the revival of "Hello Dolly".

Best Leading Actor and Actress in a Play went to Kevin Kline for "Present Laughter" and Laurie Metcalf for "A Doll's House, Part 2" while "August Wilson's Jitney" was named Best Revival Of A Play. A number from "Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812" gave a sense of that show's scope, but a bunch of people stomping around with chairs did nothing to convey the feel-good quality of "Come From Away", the musical about Gander, Newfoundland, providing refuge after 9/11.

According to today's iTunes, the cast recording for the six-time Tony Award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen has soared to the top of the album chart. (The final Best Musical nominee, Groundhog Day, went home empty-handed).
