Congressional Baseball Game to be held 1 day after shootings

Rep. Steve Scalise is still in critical condition, but his health is improving, the Congressman's surgeon said two days after Scalise was shot at a practice for the Congressional Baseball Game.

Sava said that multiple teams have worked on the congressman, with a combination of surgeries and procedures. But he will remain in the hospital for "a considerable period of time" and faces additional operations.

President Donald Trump, who visited Scalise in the hospital on Wednesday, sent a video message that played at the start of the game.

Scalise will require additional operations to fix abdominal injuries and broken bones, and will be in the hospital for some time, Sava said, adding that he couldn't yet predict the length of his hospital stay. On Wednesday night, Trump, accompanied by first lady Melania Trump, visited Scalise at the hospital.

A number of social media users were quick to seize upon the opportunity to call out Trump, Pence and Scalise - who remains in critical condition - for their lack of support for LGBTQ rights.

One of the Capitol Police officers, David Bailey, who was hailed as a hero for the way he helped to subdue the gunman, appeared on crutches.

"It's been much more hard than people even thought at the time", Trump said.

Congressional Democrats beat their Republican counterparts in Washington's annual charity baseball game, an event marked by the shooting of Rep.

The GW College Democrats and College Republicans issued a joint statement Wednesday condemning a shooting at an Alexandria, Va. baseball field where GOP members of Congress were practicing.
