Authorities believe Stockdale shot his mother and brother before trying to end his own life.
The Sheriff's Office is investigating a double homicide Thursday at the home of the Stockdale family, a group of local bluegrass music performers.
An Ohio family band member accused of killing his mother and brother was in critical but stable condition Friday at a Cleveland hospital after shooting himself in the head, authorities said. He described her as being a wonderful mother to their four sons, and Timothy added that she loved being both a mother and grandmother.
Katherine Stockdale reportedly refused to allow her sons, then pre-teens and teens, to date, watch TV, or play video games.
Maier added: 'It's hard to surmise what the motive may have been. "This is a tragedy for the family".
Timothy Stockdale described his wife as "passionate about her Christian faith" and devoted to health and organic farming.
The 54-year-old matriarch and 21-year-old bass player were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Stockdale family's father, Timothy, was not at the residence when the murders were committed. They lived on a farm, and the brothers and their father had a bluegrass band that contributed to Jacob's statewide reputation for his fiddle playing. Calvin said that James had been attending college and working on a degree in business. The brothers were homeschooled at the time, according to the segment.
"It's important we have control over their character and education", Katherine said on the show. "Aside from being a gifted musician, James enjoyed dancing and had a innate love of people".
Early Friday, Calvin Stockdale, the eldest brother of James and Jacob, released a statement saying the family "appreciates the prayers and support we are receiving from our friends and the community". "He leaves behind many friends and a family that love him dearly", Calvin said. In 2015, he released a duet album with brother Jacob and joined the Amish Country Theater's house band. My brother, Jacob, is still in critical condition and we are praying for his physical recovery as our family makes funeral plans and begins the healing process'. "While support is appreciated we ask for privacy while our family deals with this tragic loss".
Neighbors said they heard between 10 and 12 shots between 1pm and 3pm yesterday.
Neighbor Michael Fuller said: 'They are a religious family and conservative and this seems out of place'.
