Suspicious package delivered to FOX 5 Atlanta

Unsurprisingly, the passions and vast investment of resources involved in next week's special election for the sixth district of Georgia's U.S. House seat have made the contest ripe for collateral damage from the atrocity apparently perpetrated by James Hodgkinson against Republican members of Congress and staffers yesterday.

Cops have been going from mailbox to mailbox after finding the "suspicious package", according to local reports, which also indicate that Roswell police continue to flood to the area. At this time, they don't know if there are any more out there that have been delivered.

Handel addressed the threats in a Facebook statement.

The FBI also told Fox News that the FOX 5 Atlanta affiliate in Atlanta, Ga., was in receipt of an unknown white substance.

Neighbor Melissa De Feis Lentz posted a photo of the letter she was sent which contained graphic language. The police were quickly notified and street is now being blocked off.

The package contained a white powdery substance inside a clear plastic envelope.

The incident has understandably been of great concern to the Handel campaign, coming just one day after the shooting at a Republican Congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, VA.

Deal continued, "It requires all of us to be vigilant - but it's the type of random act that no one can really prepare for".

Ossoff, 30, has also received threats recently: His campaign confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that the candidate hired security guards Thursday.

Handel is locked in a competitive campaign with Democrat Jon Ossoff for a vacant Georgia congressional district that has drawn national attention. "We have reported them to local police as well as taken prudent precautions".
