Power claims IndyCar win at Texas

Pagenaud and Kanaan, who rallied from a late penalty that knocked him off the lead lap, raced Sato as the top eight cars ran in tight formation at 220 miles per hour. Chilton had his near brush sustaining some damage to the nose of his auto in the Sato-Dixon crash, but he remained in the race and finished eighth.

Kimball, who will make his 109th start Saturday (8 p.m. ET, NBCSN and the Advance Auto Parts INDYCAR Radio Network), set one- and two-lap INDYCAR qualifying records on the 1.5-mile oval to earn the first starting position for the 248-lap race.

Pagenaud is second overall with 313, Sato third with 312, Helio Castroneves fourth with 303 and Power fifth at 286.

It was Power's 31st career victory, and that ties him with Paul Tracy and Dario Franchitti on the all-time career list.

Power boosted his title push, claiming his second win of the season as he finished ahead of Brazil's Tony Kanaan. Driving the same auto he won the Indianapolis 500 in two weeks ago, Sato dove underneath Scott Dixon to make a pass on the frontstretch, but clipped the infield grass and made hard contact with Dixon. Obviously everything was a bit faster than what you've done all season, but I got back in it pretty quick, and the team made it easy because the vehicle was so good from the start. "I'm so stoked to win in my second home". "All the family is here, it just feels awesome".

Will Power took the checkered flag under caution on Saturday night, winning a wreck-filled Rainguard Water Sealers 600.

They couldn't have been further off.

That's when "The Big One" happened - a huge crash by any racing standards.

Vautier, who was racing in a one-off as a substitute for injured Sebastien Bourdais in the No. 18 Dale Coyne Racing Honda, ran strong all night until the incident.

After serving the penalty, Hinchcliffe came storming through the field, getting to the back of the lead auto.

UPDATE #2 [10:52 p.m. ET]: The race has now restarted after 30 minutes and 42 seconds of red-flag down time. Hinchcliffe ran out of real estate, pinballed off both cars and triggered the chain reaction and red flag.

Coyne believed Kanaan was the cause of the crash.

All drivers involved in the crash were evaluated and released from the infield care center.

While calling Kanaan someone he trusts on the track, Hinchcliffe said Kanaan drove from inside along the white line and up into him, and pushed him into Aleshin. "It's a shame. He's too good of a driver". We should be coming to Texas.

"It really doesn't matter where you qualify here, but I think we've got a decent setup to go after it (in the race) in the Honda", Dixon said. "Either his spotter didn't tell him we were three wide or what, but I couldn't go anywhere, I was sandwiched in the middle". Normally he's a guy I trust my life with in this kind of racing, but today he just wasn't driving very smart and wasn't driving very respectfully, and took out half the field.

Castroneves, who has won more open-wheel races (4) at Texas than any other driver, had his day end on Lap 91 when he slammed hard into the wall coming out of Turn 2.

"I'm gutted for the Arrow Electronics guys, everybody at Schmidt Peterson Motorsports". Weather.com suggests only a 10 percent chance of rain on Saturday night, with clouds and a high of 72 degrees. We went from the back to the front to the back to the front, and we had a good shot at the win here tonight.

Kanaan said it was Vautier's startling progress that woke him up to the fact that it was going to be a pack race.
