NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Faith Hill sang a handsome rendition of the national anthem Sunday night before Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Nashville Predators and Pittsburgh Penguins at Bridestone Arena. Whether it was the player's first, second, or even third Cup, the Penguins didn't forget about those who made it all possible in the first place. The 1998 Red Wings were the last team to win a second consecutive Cup.
The Penguins won their fifth title - all of them clinched on the road - to tie the Wayne Gretzky-Mark Messier-era Edmonton Oilers for sixth on the all-time list.
First going viral in the earlier rounds, the catfish made more notable appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals when one self-proclaimed redneck was able to sneak one into enemy territory for Game 1 and a well-dressed, bedazzled catfish taking the ice in Nashville during Game 4.
Unfortunately, they were robbed of a goal when their obvious score was called back due to "intent to blow the whistle" by the ref. And yet for six years, they were never close really to Cup contention after winning in 2009.
Bonino revealed after Sunday's Game 6 victory that broke his leg in the first period of Game 2, but played through it, finishing the night with 16:06 of ice time - more than he logged in Game 1.
"We've proven that we're a team that can compete now and win now", defenseman P.K. Subban said.
"I do not have to take responsibility for Pittsburgh signing (sic) Kessel", Karmanos said in July 2015.
We know they just won on Sunday night, but let's look ahead and see why they're a lock to win another one in 2017-18. Colton Sissons had a goal erased by a whistle 67 seconds into the second period. And that's just the beginning, just think about what they could do next year. He performed miracles and have stoped 27 shots, putting down his second consecutive shutout. Nashville roared back at home to even things up, but the Penguins routed Nashville to set up Game 6. "And then we got a good bounce there at the end".
He stopped me before I finished the question: "Just one?" he said. This playoff year, they didn't have Kris Letang, their only all-star on defence, in the lineup.
"Our goal is to win every year", Crosby told reporters after the game. We had a lot of injuries. "We believed all the way".
"We were getting chances, just nothing was going in for us", Murray said.
Crosby has also won two Art Ross trophies as the NHL's leading point scorer, two Hart Memorial trophies for regular-season MVP and has been the league's leading goal scorer two times, including in this season.
Crosby has already won the Rocket Richard Trophy this season and is a Hart Memorial Trophy finalist.
"You have a small window to play and to have a career, and I feel fortunate, but I also understand how hard it is, so you just want to try to make the best of it", Crosby said.
