The movie star, who is a boxing fanatic, claims the UFC tough guy has what it takes to be a real-life Rocky, and has little doubt unretired Floyd "will get hurt" when the two fighters meet in the ring on 26 August (17). Mayweather is now 40-years-old, he hasn't fought in two years, and McGregor is a bigger man - with the contest taking place at the junior middleweight limit of 154-pounds.
Mayweather will earn $100 million while McGregor will pocket $80 million.
Financial terms were not released, though Mayweather got the greater share of revenue when he fought Manny Pacquiao and is expected to have a similar percentage against McGregor.
Mayweather to win is just 1/12 at present, with the underdog McGregor 6/1 to pull off an incredible upset. Though he hasn't boxed professionally, McGregor did box while growing up and is known for his striking expertise in UFC. UFC President Dana White said the fighter "is absolutely confident that he will win". "It's the right fight at the right place at the right time". Fans betting on McGregor, meanwhile, could see value in the long shot with a payout in the 7-1 range.
In those 49 fights, Mayweather has fought the full 12 rounds 19 times.
The big fight was announced on Wednesday (14Jun17), when the undefeated boxer declared he was officially out of retirement so he could face off with mixed martial arts star McGregor.
Not many people are expecting a fight between McGregor and Mayweather to be competitive, though.
Dermot & Dave caught up with former Olympic boxer Cathal O'Grady to discuss one the most anticipated fights in boxing history.
Though oddsmakers make Mayweather a big favorite, the thought of the fight has excited many in the MMA world.
The pay-per-view revenue for the event would likely gross tens of millions of dollars.
