Local lawmakers respond to baseball practice shooting

The Democratic congressional baseball team, practicing on a separate field Wednesday morning, took cover minutes after the shooting at the GOP congressional baseball team's practice in Alexandria, New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries told CNN.
Over the years the Congressional Baseball Game has been a fundraiser for charities including The Washington Literacy Center, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington and The Washington Nationals Dream Foundation.
Rep. John Tener of Pennsylvania organized the first game in 1909.
The Democratic team has dominated in recent times, having won seven straight games before tasting defeat a year ago against the Republicans. A Republican, Largent represented the state's 1st Congressional District from 1994-2002.
Rep. Jared Polis of Colorado tweeted that their team practice had been cancelled after word of the attack spread.

Flores said security for lawmakers was increased after the election - adding that he was on high alert Wednesday because he believed a copycat attack could be possible.
