In her note to the judge informing the deadlock, the jury forewoman said the panel could not reach "a unanimous consensus" on the charges against Cosby.

"There are some that can't imagine that this character whom they have loved so much, who's influenced their lives so much is not that real same person through and through". Cosby knit his fingers, working his hands into a ball that he held in front of his mouth as the contents of the note were read in court by O'Neill. There was a smile on his face.

"While you should not hesitate to re-examine your own views or change your opinion if your opinion is erroneous, do not feel compelled to surrender your honest belief", he told the panel.

The trial comes after repeated efforts by Cosby's lawyers to have the charges thrown out.

The jury, bused in from the Pittsburgh area, has paused a half-dozen times to revisit key evidence, including Cosby's decade-old admissions that he fondled Constand after giving her pills.

Jewel Allison, a former model who says Cosby assaulted her in the 1980s, faced off against a woman holding a sign that read "Bill Cosby is innocent" in capital letters. Constand - an athletic, 6-foot-tall college basketball staffer - said they made her dazed and groggy, and unable to say no or fight back when Cosby went inside her trousers.

Prosecutors are likely to argue that Cosby's wealth makes him a flight risk, while the defense will say he is a longstanding member of the community and a bond increase should suffice. We ask what that means for both Cosby and Andrea Constand.

During the past week of testimony, prosecutors called 12 witnesses and presented nearly no forensic evidence.

The next day, they asked for clarification of the phrase "without her knowledge" in count three, which pertains to whether Cosby administered "drugs, intoxicants or other means for the goal of preventing resistance" without Constand's knowledge.
