Happy Death Day Looks Like Groundhog Day Meets Scream

Certainly, the title of the movie is rather ironic and even humorous in terms of the day that Tree finds herself repeating over and over again.

From the producer of Get Out, The Purge and The Visit, we have the first trailer for Happy Death Day.

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions have just debuted the new trailer for Happy Death Day, starring Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine, Charles Aitken, and Laura Clifton.

While the whole "Groundhog Day with a twist" pitch should be wearing thin by now, there are plenty of pleasures to be found in this preview. The basic concept is that a young woman wakes up after a bender on her birthday only to be killed that night. A teaser trailer was released the other on Monday, showing Tree's day and a killer wearing a pretty terrifying baby mask. This keeps repeating, forcing her to go through horrific death after horrific death while she tries to figure out who her killer is. It feels like the last major horror movie to take that approach would be Scream and its sequels.

Landon wrote Paranormal Activity 2, 3, and 4, along with Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. Interestingly, the screenplay was co-written by Scott Lobdell, a comic book writer best known for his work with Marvel and DC.
