Then we talked about some other stuff.
Russian President Vladimir Putin's comments in a recent sit-down with NBC News' Megyn Kelly suited his own strategy, a former USA ambassador to Russia told CNBC on Monday. "Put your finger anywhere on a map of the world, and everywhere you will hear complaints that American officials are interfering in internal electoral processes", he responded.
The contacts Flynn and other Trump aides had with Russian officials and bankers are drawing intense scrutiny, particularly after USA intelligence agencies concluded that Russian hackers meddled in the American election.
Finally, Putin denied reports of contacts between Trump campaign associates and Kislyak, saying he did not have the time to personally supervise the ambassador's schedule but found the idea unconvincing.

Echoing remarks President Donald Trump made on the campaign trail, Putin also questioned the need for North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. Do you think we're gathering information on all of the [Americans visiting the USA on business].
"Why, did we have some special relationship with him?" he asked Kelly. "But, you know, I never met him".
"And then afterwards I was told 'Do you know that was an American gentleman and he was involved in some things? There are a lot of specialists who can even make it so it comes from your home IP address, as if your 3-year-old daughter carried out the attack". He finally conceded in January that Russian Federation has waged cyberattacks on America but insisted they had "absolutely no effect on the outcome".
Kelly also spent time with Putin Thursday evening while they both took part in a state dinner at Konstantin Palace in St. Petersburg, although that footage did not air on Sunday.

Mr Flynn was sacked in February after misleading the White House about his ties with Russia's envoy to the US. Her meeting with the Indian Prime Minister landed her in controversy as she had asked him, "Are you on Twitter?" Politico magazine reported citing anonymous sources that US President Donald Trump "appears to question decisions even after they've been made" with regard to Flynn. But Putin painted the entire Russian hacking story as the invention of people who hate President Trump and have seen too many spy movies.
Kelly pushed back at the assertion, saying it sounded like Putin's attempt to justify his government's attempts to influence elections. "No proposal like that came to me", Putin said through a Russian interpreter.
Putin told Kelly that he has "no idea" if Sergey Kislyak, the Russian ambassador to the US, met with any members of Trump's team before inauguration.
Then why did the USA intelligence services say it was the Russians?
Putin again denied any Russian involvement in the USA presidential election and any knowledge of Russian contacts with the Trump campaign.
Outside of the Putin interview, Kelly introduced stories from other NBC News correspondents, including an investigation from McFadden alleging that a pharmaceutical company used fraudulent tactics to encourage the over prescription of an expensive pain killer which endangered patients while enriching the corporation.
