As expected, Dear Evan Hansen swept the night at the 2017 Tony Awards on Sunday, June 11th, 2017, winning an impressive six.

The night belonged to Dear Evan Hansen, which has made stars not only of Platt, who was previously best known for appearing in the Pitch Perfect films (2012 and 2015), but also of its young songwriters, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. However, most of the awards went to the people everyone expected, apart from one maybe.
"It's been a great year for revivals in general, especially that one they revived down in Washington, D.C.", the "Late Show" host said.
The awards for leading actor and actress in a play went to Present Laughter star Kevin Kline, and, from A Doll's House, Part 2, Laurie Metcalf, who beat Cate Blanchett. Jitney, by August Wilson, won best revival of a play.
Host Kevin Spacey kept things light throughout the evening, starting with a madcap opening number in which he inserted himself into each of the Best Musical nominees.
