New York City deli clerk gets jaw broken in avocado attack

The New York Police Department has identified a person of interest in an unusual attack that took place at a Bronx deli.

Two men were caught on video launching avocados at a Bronx bodega worker - breaking the man's jaw with the succulent fruit.

Chaos erupted at Stadium Gourmet Deli on East 161st Street after the 21-year-old clerk tried to kick out the two men for causing a scene over their food order.

The suspect was angry about an order when he started hurling avocados and bananas, police said. He was taken to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.

"I don't know, what I say man, this action that he do is not normal".

Both suspects are described as 25 to 30 years old. The second suspect was a black male last seen in a white T-shirt, a blue vest, blue jeans and blue and white sneakers.

The owner of the deli explained the injured employee is new to the store and does not speak clear English, so the assault may have been a result of the language barrier. They also smashed watermelons and threw other items before leaving the store.
