Man United sign Victor Lindelof for €35 million

United announced on Saturday that they had agreed terms with Benfica regarding a transfer fee, and on Wednesday Lindelof put pen to paper on a long-term contract which also has the option for an extra year.

Victor Lindelof will need to be able to deal with danger and play out of defence to succeed at Manchester United, according to Rene Meulensteen.

Lindelof is Mourinho's first signing of the summer as the United boss looks to strengthen the squad which finished sixth in last season's Premier League. "I think I'm quite good at reading the game and I think I give the players in front of me a sense of calm, they know I'm back there and I try to protect them as good as I can".

VICTOR LINDELOF has revealed he needed no persuasion from countryman Zlatan Ibrahimovic to join Manchester United.

"I have enjoyed my time at Benfica enormously and I have learnt a lot there. I'm keen to get started and contribute to the team's efforts to win more trophies".

Lindelof, who is a 12-time Sweden worldwide, joined Benfica from Vasteras SK in 2012.

The Sweden defender joined Benfica from hometown club Vasteras in 2012 and has won three Portuguese league titles and two Portuguese Cups during his time in Lisbon.

Lindelof later arrived at United's Carrington training base on Wednesday morning after global duty, undergoing a medical and ironing out the finer details.

The Sweden worldwide will become Mourinho's first arrival of the window as the Portuguese works to strengthen his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

Smalling joined Manchester United from Fulham and has made almost 250 appearances in his time at Old Trafford.

No deal is yet in place for Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata, despite reports that a €70 million transfer has been finalised.

United have rather struggled to produce a consistent central defensive pairing in recent seasons, and the arrival of Lindelof will now doubt add presence to the Red Devils' back-line.

"Of course there are some great players here in my position", he said. Everywhere you go you have to adapt to a new environment, but I feel comfortable in myself and I trust myself. "No one gets anything cheap from Europe because it's the Premier League".
