Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers appears to have beaten off a sizeable amount of competition to sign Jonny Hayes.
CELTIC have agreed a deal - thought to be around £1.3million - with Aberdeen to sign Jonny Hayes.
Hayes, who last figured for Aberdeen against Celtic in the Scottish Cup final, was also a target for Cardiff City, Birmingham and Nottingham Forest.
Celtic's impeding signing of Hayes will significantly weaken their closest rivals last term, ahead of the new campaign.
Sunderland have been linked with a swoop for Hayes should McInnes make the switch to Wearside - though Celtic are still in pole position to sign the Republic of Ireland global.
Aberdeen supporters have been resigned to losing the 29-year-old but will have hoped to have seen Hayes move to the Championship in England rather to the Scottish treble winners.
After three years in the Highlands he moved East to Aberdeen, for whom he has made over 200 appearances and scored 30 goals.
"And it wouldn't surprise me if their manager Derek McInnes goes to Sunderland either - so there might be other motives behind everything stalling".
