'X-Men: Dark Phoenix:' Jessica Chastain in Talks to Play Villain Lilandra

Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and James McAvoy will reprise their roles for X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the next movie in the rebooted X-Men series, that will also have screenwriter Simon Kinberg take point as the director.

If she signs on, the actress would play the villainous Lilandra, "the empress of an alien empire called the Shi'ar, who leads the quest to imprison and execute Dark Phoenix, leading her into conflict with the X-Men".

Sophie Turner is reprising her role as the X-Men heroine Jean Grey, aka Phoenix, a telepath who, in the comics, saw her powers become amplified to the Nth degree when she becomes imbued by a cosmic energy called the Phoenix Force.

As this is a breaking news story, check back for updates. Numerous stars of the last three films will return, and it will be directed by series producer Simon Kinberg. The Phoenix, in the form of Jean, appeared as the primary antagonist in "X-Men: The Last Stand".

"Dark Phoenix" will shoot in Montreal. Kinberg himself has been involved with the franchise for just over a decade, having written the main installments of the ongoing film series since The Last Stand with the exception of X-Men: First Class.

"I can't really speak to anything specifically but I think the challenge as offered by all the films we've mentioned [including Guardians Of The Galaxy] is very - we're very aware of the challenge that those movies pose and what it sort of demands of us as storytellers mining, again, one of the great comic runs in The Dark Phoenix Saga". Kinberg is also producing along with Hutch Parker and Lauren Shuler Donner. The film also has a release date, as it's primed to hit theaters on November 2, 2018.
