Sparked by 39 points from Kevin Durant and 34 from Stephen Curry, the Golden State Warriors won their fifth NBA title Monday, beating Cleveland, 129-120, to capture the NBA Finals for the second time in three seasons.
Green, who played a total of 44 minutes with 10 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and two steals, also set aside any grievances over the officiating, particularly in Game 4, saying he understood the calls made given the physicality of both teams.
The Warriors finished their playoff run with a near-flawless 15-1 record, having swept through the first three rounds before clinching the Finals in five games.
James scored 41 points to lead Cleveland.
"They started to go with the pick-and-roll with Steph Curry and Durant, which might be one of the most unstoppable pick-and-rolls in our league", Lue said. On average, his Finals opponent have been on average 3.28 points better than his teams.
An unprecedented third straight NBA Finals clash between the Warriors and Cavaliers was hyped as the ultimate championship rubber match and was expected to be the antidote for a post-season that had little in the way of drama.
Maybe Thompson or Curry would have hit those shots if Durant never came to Golden State; maybe the Warriors would have won the title without him; maybe Durant didn't actually alter National Basketball Association history in any meaningful way.
The Golden State Warriors are on the cusp of a dynastic situation.
Durant said his father, brother and other family members have given him support along the way. Kind of fast forwarding to right now, how is he a different player and a different person since you do know him personally, and even though you're - obviously you're upset because you lost, how do you feel about him winning that first championship?
"And Draymond was like, 'keep playing to the end.' Andre is like, 'keep playing, we have like 50 seconds left.' And I'm like, 'bro, we're about to win the title'". They stepped up. The entire season they were great.
"I left everything on the floor every game, all five games", he said.
Durant won the Finals MVP award after averaging 35.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.6 blocks for the series.
