Manchester United release Zlatan Ibrahimovic amid Alvaro Morata links

Those are the words Jose Mourinho used to convince Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata into a move to Old Trafford, according to a report in the Spanish press.

Spanish newspaper Marca is claiming that Mourinho has promised to make Morata a key player at Manchester United as the reports linking the 24-year-old with a move to Old Trafford continue.

Chelsea are proposing a €155m double deal for the duo that blows United's offer out of the water, though they may not move for James if they can not sign Morata too.

Asked if he Morata had already agreed a deal, he continued: "I can say there's a very important proposal and the decision rests with Real".

Meanwhile, Victor Lindelof has vowed to fight for his Manchester United team-mates and fans when the Sweden defender expects to complete a £35million move on Wednesday. Although he wasn't first choice for Real Madrid, he played a significant role in the squad and scored 15 goals in La Liga.

Speaking afterwards, Morata says he hopes to play alongside James once more in 2017-18 and suggested that he would like them both to stay with the European champions.

The Real Madrid striker will cost United upwards of £60million and is seen as a replacement for the recently released Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Morata helped Madrid to win the LaLiga and Champions League titles in 2016-17 following his return to the club from Juventus, but started only 14 league games.

Lopez also confirmed AC Milan's interest in Morata, but the Serie A side's offer wasn't enough for Real president Florentino Perez.

"You always want to play for Spain", he said.

Any potential deal to bring Griezmann to Old Trafford now looks extremely hard, however, following the confirmation of Atletico Madrid's transfer ban.
