Johnson begins week as US Open betting favorite

His fiancée, Paulina Gretzky, had yet to give birth as of Sunday morning with it expected that she'd have the baby late last night or early this morning.

Dustin Johnson is heading for Wisconsin on Tuesday to defend his U.S. Open title, and he's doing it as a father for the second time.

Dustin Johnson wasn't taking any chances about missing his second major of the year.

A week after Phil Mickelson revealed that he would not be attending the U.S. Open because of his daughter's graduation, another top player's availability was put into question.

The very next day, DJ hopped on a flight to Erin, Wisconsin to gear up for the U.S. Open with a clear head - knowing Paulina and baby are happy and healthy back home.

After playing for the victorious US team in the Ryder Cup, Johnson has dominated in 2017. It was the PGA Tour's longest winning streak since Rory McIlroy also won three consecutive titles in 2014.

Johnson enters the tournament as the world's top-ranked golfer.

Johnson won't be going into the US Open blind though. But Johnson leads the Tour in greens in regulation (72.53 percent), so he does not need to rely on a Houdini-like short game to save par as often as some other players. After missing the cut at the Memorial Tournament last week, the 32-year-old took the short flight from OH to Wisconsin and played two practice rounds.

"He really liked the course and feels like it sets up beautifully for his game", David Winkle, Johnson's agent, said to Golfworld.
