Honda details 2018 Accord from under the camouflage

"ORCRP007390-topic.html" class="local_link" >Honda Accord is getting turbocharged instead of being offered with a V-6 engine. The third engine option on the new-gen Accord will be the one with Honda's two-motor hybrid technology.

Last Friday, American Honda Motors confirmed the Imminent death of a made in America Icon. I'd predicted the demise of Honda Accord V6 back in September of 2016, after driving the first turbocharged Honda Civic in the maker's history.

Chevrolet, Hyundai and others already have dropped V6 options in their midsize cars.

The most likely candidates to fill those roles will be the 140kW/240Nm 1.5-litre engine from the new CR-V SUV and a derivative of the 235kW/400Nm 2.0-litre engine as used in the Civic Type-R hot hatch.

The 10th-generation Accord will come standard with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a more powerful 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder.

Though the first image released, included here, reveals very little, we do know the new Honda Accord adopts a lower, wider stance, part of a conscious attempt by Honda's designers to give it a more aggressive and athletic look. The mill is mated to an eight-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, which comes with a torque converter. The smaller engine will get a continuously variable transmission, while the larger one will get a new 10-speed automatic transmission.

There's no official word about the Accord making a potential comeback in Europe, but if the tenth-generation is a huge success in North America, it may be too tempting for Honda to resist, especially with the hybrid. Sedan sales are down about 10 percent on the year, according to Automotive News.

Honda says the new design has a more aggressive stance than previous Accords, although the company only released pictures of the auto in camouflage.
