French Open for THU JUNE 8

Three-time grand slam victor Murray fought back from a set down to beat eighth seed Nishikori of Japan 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-0), 6-1 and seal a semi-final spot at Roland Garros for the fourth successive year.

Murray was not at his best but came back from a set down in the quarter-finals to defeat Kei Nishikori in Paris 2-6 6-1 7-6 (7-0) 6-1.

The 2015 champion demolished Marin Cilic, who has been in fine form himself this fortnight, 6-3 6-3 6-1 in just 100 minutes.

A time violation helped kick Andy Murray into gear as he defeated Kei Nishikori to set up a French Open semi-final rematch against Stan Wawrinka.

"Stan has played fantastic this tournament so far, I don't think he's dropped a set", Murray said.

He told Eurosport: "Obviously, we played at the US Open and that was five sets, a match that got away from me a little bit, so I need to learn a bit from that". The 30-year-old has won eight of their 10 previous meetings, most recently at the World Tour Finals last November.

Nine-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal and outgoing champion Novak Djokovic — who lost his quarterfinal against Dominic Thiem — have also had run-ins with Ramos at this tournament.

"Obviously for a couple of points after that I was sacked up, because I was frustrated at that moment", he said. He's going to crack, Andy is too good.

"I think today was probably the best I have played overall". "I was really happy to come back in the second set". Wawrinka's service numbers have lowered when playing Murray in the past, especially the last match when he won just 11 of 25 second serve points. I think he's struggling a little bit since the beginning of the year, but he's in the semifinal. I have never seen that.

John McEnroe, working for Eurosport, accused Djokovic of tanking, and the 12-time grand slam champion said: "I obviously always expect a lot from myself, but it's a fact that I'm not playing close to my best, and I know that".

"It's great for me to be in the semi-finals again, to defend that", he said.

Murray's display will not give Wawrinka any sleepless nights, but he will remember how outstandingly well the world number one played to beat him in four sets in last year's semi-final. "He was the better player and deserved to win". Murray looks for his third grand slam final appearance since last season. I won a very close tiebreak.

After a shaky second serve was dumped long by Nishikori, the eighth seed went completely off the boil and did not win another game in the set.
