Donald Trump's 'Covfefe' tweet: These are the most hilarious desi Twitter reactions

A midnight tweet from U.S. President Donald Trump set the global social media scene ablaze as thousands of people scrambled to figure out what the word "covfefe" meant. Trump's original tweet - "Despite the negative press covfefe" - was posted shortly after 12 a.m. Wednesday. The organisation said in a letter to senators in March that it had told the Trump team that it needs to "capture and preserve all tweets that the President posts... including those that are subsequently deleted".

The tweet went viral instantly, becoming one the most popular posts of the divisive US leader before it was deleted after almost six hours online. The covfefe kerfuffle is a reminder that we're living in a unique political era: Even the words are brand-new. But as much as Merriam-Webster has assumed the responsibility of trying to define everything that comes out of Trump's mouth, it seems even a dictionary can't make sense of the "covfefe" typo.

It also seems that no one noticed at the white house for almost six hours.

And while the jokes came in droves, as they should, I would actually like to discuss the seriousness of "covfefe" and what this means for us as a country.

One person wrote; "covfefe for the new america".

Republican strategist Liz Mair, by contrast, saw it as a way for the White House to create a distraction from negative stories about the president. At some point, someone on Trump's staff was supposed to get this tweet down, but no one could get into Trump's room to shake him off his bunk bed to get his damn cellphone to stop the damage.

Earlier on Wednesday, Clinton - who refused to let such a good opportunity to mock her formal presidential candidate rival - also cracked a joke about the misspelled tweet while speaking at the Code Conference in Los Angeles. Moreover, during the trip the president was accompanied by his wife and was rarely alone with his phone - unlike his frequent solitary nights at the White House.

There were few serious tweets in response to the mysterious "covfefe", but there did appear to be some concern about his well-being, given the silence after that tweet. Check out some of the reactions to Trump's new word below.
