Andy Murray prepared for tough encounter as Delpo rivalry continues

The world number one, who beat Del Potro in the Rio Olympic final, needed almost three hours to beat the 29th seed, and Murray made an effort to contain his trademark swearing and futile shouting, after admitting he had let his emotions get the better of him in the previous round.

With the year's second Grand Slam in progress, another one exactly one month away, and a third to begin in less than three months, Murray is raising his level to the tune an impressive first week at the French Open.

June 3 Here is a roundup of day seven at the French Open on Saturday.

"I expected a very tough match, and the first set was very, very important for the rest of the match", said Murray.

And now I know his game a lot, but I need to be in good shape and physically be stronger if we play a long match, long rallies.

"Whoever won that first set had big momentum", said Murray after winning 7-6 7-5 6-0.

"It's nice to be in Paris in the fourth round", Halep said on Court Suzanne Lenglen moments after her win.

Delpo did well to dismiss 11 but these 6 breaks turned out to be enough for Andy to score straight sets win, but it was especially tough in the opener.

Cornet reached the last 16 for just the second time with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Polish 9th seed Agnieszka Radwanska who lost all her 7 service games.

"I was going to try and just get through the first round and hopefully feel better each day".

In the women's event, Czech second seed Karolina Pliskova and third-seeded Simona Halep of Romania, both firm women's title favourites after the first round exit of world number one Angelique Kerber, went through.

Murray clinched the Rio Olympic Games gold medal with a four-set victory over the 29th-seeded Juan Martin Del Potro in the final, and recorded 6-3 in their previous nine meetings.

The unseeded Cornet was a surprisingly easy victor against No. 9 Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland, 6-2, 6-1, while No. 28 Garcia edged Hsieh Su-wei of Taiwan 6-4, 4-6, 9-7. He had some opportunities to close it out, and he served a double fault in the tie-break on one of the set points. There's no point in having a shot like that and not using it.

The Brit, who struggled to find form during the first half of the season had already played two four-set matches in the first two rounds.

However, that success is overshadowed by a bitter feud between compatriots Alize Cornet and Caroline Garcia who will clash for a place in the quarter-finals. The Frenchmen meet for the 14th time with Monfils 7-6 up.

In a similar scenario, there was a match Stan Wawrinka, who met with unpredictable Italian Fabio Fognini.

The 24th-seeded Gasquet stopped playing while trailing 4-3 in the third set.

But he was given a real fright by Argentinian Schwartzman before coming through 5-7 7-5 3-6 6-1 6-1.

Pliskova faces Germany's Carina Witthoeft and Halep plays No. 26 Daria Kasatkina of Russian Federation.
