Kevin Durant named Finals MVP after winning first championship

Won their first National Basketball Association title on the West Coast in 1975 when they pulled off a major upset by sweeping the heavily favored Washington Bullets in four games.

Durant, who lost in his only previous Finals appearance, led the way for the Warriors with 39 points and was relieved after feeling pressure to deliver prior to the game.

Iguodala, the 2015 Finals MVP, came up big again with his 2017 postseason-best 20 points off the bench in a testy, tightly called finale to this trilogy Finals that everyone had stamped on the calendar from the moment Durant departed Oklahoma City to join Curry and Co. last July. Durant has made 14 of 18 shots, including 5 of 7 3-pointers, to put the Warriors on the brink of their second championship in three years.

James had a spectacular series, averaging 33.6 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists but it wasn't enough. That drew the attention of all three of the Warriors' weak-side defenders. Durant has 28 points on 9-of-13 shooting and Curry has 25 points. "We added Kyle Korver and Deron Williams". If J.R. Smith hadn't tossed in seven threes, majority with between two and 10 hands in his face, the final score would've been a lot less friendly than 129-120. LeBron James and Cleveland, looking down and out only days ago in an 0-3 hole, now have some momentum after winning Game 4 and they will try to stave off elimination once more. Remember, these streaming services offer trial period that viewers can take advantage of, meaning not a single dollar will be spent to witness the historic Game 5 when watching on venue and catching the TV broadcast is not possible. He dramatically drove and dunked on Cleveland's defense, knocked down big 3-pointers and blocked shots while handling the load of defending King James. That should give the Cavaliers some hope.

The Golden State Warriors lead the Cleveland Cavaliers 71-60 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, fueled by high energy, scoring runs and defensive intensity. Monday night, they did.

After Cleveland led 37-33 through the first quarter, Golden State outscored Cleveland 38-23 in the second quarter. James went to four-straight NBA Finals in Miami before leading the Cavs to three Finals in a row.

Tempers flared when Kyrie Irving tied up David West on a loose ball.

James and Kyrie Irving didn't go down without a fight. After an extended review of the confrontation, officials Danny Crawford and Ed Malloy assessed technical fouls to Thompson and Smith as well and did not give West a second technical, which would have resulted in an ejection. Now Kevin Durant, Steph Curry and the Warriors have found the range. He had 10 points, 12 rebounds and five assists in the clincher.

Tight whistle in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. The average ticket price on the site for the game is $1,731, ESPN reported, almost 20 percent higher than last year's Game 5 between the Warriors and the Cavaliers, when the average reached $1,444.

Now back home he expects the Warriors to not just match that level by the Cavs but surpass it. The Cleveland Cavaliers are fresh from the Game 4 blowout of 137-116 and certainly are gunning for a repeat to live another day.

James, too, understands. He's been on both sides the previous two years.

The Warriors took their only loss of the playoffs in Friday night's Game 4. There were times where we were fanning out trying to get to that three-point line [on defense], and then they would back-cut us and get a layup.

Thompson has spent most of the series chasing Irving around the court like a yellow lab who keeps chasing a ball, at least that's how it looks at times to coach Steve Kerr. But Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant have each picked up two fouls. He's earned $57 million more than any other player. It's a long shot, but Cleveland has been in this position before.

The Warriors, who beat Cleveland in the 2015 Finals only to lose to them past year after squandering a 3-1 series lead, went a record-setting 15-1 in the playoffs, their only loss coming in Game Four of the best-of-seven championship.

They made their group plea to Kevin Durant last summer, Stephen Curry and the core of the Golden State Warriors traveling cross-country to go at a prized free agent the only way they do it around here: with "Strength in Numbers". Durant wants his first championship. So hitting and being physical and just everything they do to us in the first three games, we have to do that.

Getting good looks from the perimeter starts with getting multiple Golden State defenders to move.
