Katy Perry announces 'American Idol' auditions are officially open for new season

American Idol announced it was coming back for a 16th season on ABC, but before the hit show returns it needs contestants. There will also be an audition in Orlando two days earlier. Judge Katy Perry made the special announcement on Good Morning America on Monday.

The West Bus tour schedule is as follows: Portland, OR (Aug. 17), Oakland (Aug. 20), Provo, UT (Aug. 23), Denver, CO (Aug. 26), Omaha, NE (Aug. 29).

"American Idol" ended its long and successful run on Fox last spring with what was billed as a "farewell season".

One must be at least 15 years old to audition.

Superstar hopefuls can audition August 25 in Charleston, SC, or August 27 in Asheville.

The location of the Pittsburgh audition has not been announced yet.

If you don't want to audition in person, you can audition online by submit audition videos at www.americanidol.com or through social media on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or Musical.ly using the hashtag #TheNextIdol.
