Trump fires back on Twitter: 'Comey is a leaker!'

Stating that Trump had never tried to pressure Comey into ending the probe into Flynn's behavior, Kasowitz added, "The president also never told Mr. Comey, "I need loyalty, I expect loyalty" in form or substance".

By referring to "total and complete vindication", the president was likely thinking of Comey's confirmation Thursday that, as NPR's Jessica Taylor reports, "there was no counterintelligence nor criminal investigation of Trump individually and that the president was not personally under investigation".

He told the Senate panel he took meticulous notes of each meeting or conversation he had with Trump because "I was honestly concerned that he might lie about the nature of our meeting, and so I thought it really important to document".

Trump was addressing reporters for the first time since Thursday's explosive testimony in which Comey branded the president a liar, and said he was sacked over his handling of the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into Russian election meddling.

Trump branded Comey a "leaker" for indirectly providing to reporters the contents of memos he wrote after their private conversations. "I hardly know the man, I'm not going to say 'I want you to pledge allegiance.' ..."

"I would be glad to tell him exactly what I just told you, Jon", Trump responded.

President Donald Trump listens during a news conference with Romania's President Klaus Werner Iohannis in the Rose Garden of the White House in Washington, Friday, June 9, 2017.

"You and I are friends: "Hey, I hope this happens, but you've got to do your job". Trump Jr agreed and tweeted: "Good times". "Other countries are starting to realize it's time to pay up", Trump said.

"You're going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer".

"Certainly, we are there to protect", Trump said.

"Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication.and WOW, Comey is a leaker!" he tweeted.

During his testimony Thursday, Comey told lawmakers that Trump was not a target in the bureau's investigation into Russian Federation.

During nearly three hours of statements Thursday before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Comey described himself as "stunned" by Trump's "very disturbing" and "very concerning" behavior in several of their meetings. Trump stopped short of saying that Comey lied under oath.

"There's no doubt that I was sacked because of the Russia investigation", Comey told lawmakers, referring to the widening probe of Russian influence on last year's USA presidential election.
