President Trump continues to veer around wildly in his positions taken on Qatar, having gone from personally taking credit for the regional split with the tiny U.S. ally earlier this week, backpedaling and offering to mediate, and now reversing course again and issuing a new condemnation of the Qatari government.

The United Arab Emirates central bank has ordered local banks to stop dealing with the 59 individuals and 12 entities with alleged links to Qatar and to freeze their assets, state news agency WAM reported late on Friday.

"We call for all contradictions to be resolved at the negotiation table through a mutually respectful dialogue,"Lavrov said, adding Arab states should unite to effectively fight terrorism".

Kuwait, which has not joined its neighbours against Qatar, has been leading mediation efforts and on Sunday Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khaled Al-Sabah said that would continue. "Is this the beginning of wisdom and reasonable thinking?"

Qatar Petroleum's statement comes during the biggest diplomatic crisis to hit the Gulf states in years.

Western officials long have accused Qatar's government of allowing or even encouraging the funding of some Sunni extremists, and the Qatari government has openly supported the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
