In New York, for example, the "anti-Shariah" rally involved around three dozen people, while counter-protesters numbered in the hundreds.
When the group's supporters took to the streets on Saturday, they found they were hugely outnumbered by counter-protesters in several cities.
About 100 people gathered in south Lansing Saturday morning, some to march against Sharia and others to oppose the march.
The event was a quiet display of people expressing their 1st Amendment rights, Master Police Officer Linda Kuehn wrote in a news release.
The Community Interfaith Dialogue on Islam held a "Protest Against Hate" on Saturday at the Peace Plaza, as a counter protest to anti-sharia marches planned for the same day in 26 cities across the U.S.
The marches were on the backdrop of an uptick in anti-Muslim incidents, including arson and vandalism at mosques, harassment of women wearing Muslim head-covering and bullying of Muslim schoolchildren, according to The Associated Press. Stay up-to-date with Virginia Beach Today.
They said liberals, Democrats and others are allowing Shariah to supplant the U.S. Constitution. This was part of a larger, nationwide march ACT for America put on.
Police tried to keep the opposing demonstrations mostly separate, each group confined to their its own street corner.
A small but raucous demonstration against Sharia was held in San Bernardino, where a husband and wife inspired by the Islamic State group killed 14 people and wounded 22 in a 2015 shooting attack.
"Sharia law is against our freedom". It says it condemns bias against religious groups and is "proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with peaceful Western Muslims as well as peaceful Muslims worldwide".
"It is not imposed on others; it's observed in line with the laws of the land", AbuTaleb said.
Several people were arrested after fights broke out at the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul, although nobody was injured, according to local reports.
Demonstrators gathered to protest against Islamic-law hoist American flags as they take part in a rally Saturday, June 10, 2017, in NY. Two men and a woman people were arrested and booked for obstructing, say police.
"The idea that there are Muslims in America trying to impose Shariah law is absurd. We are a nation of all faiths", said counter-protester Paul Adler.
"It's coming in very slowly, and a lot of the refugees are bringing that ideology here", Zamora said of Shariah.
Act for America has been obsessed with Shariah law and began a campaign against it in 2008. "I refuse to let my country go the way Europe is going".
When President Donald Trump campaigned a year ago, he said he wanted to test Muslims coming into America to make sure they don't want Sharia law to supersede the US Constitution.
