Over 168million children engaged in child labour - ILO

ILO's report says they are involved in some of the worst forms of child labor explotation, including misuse as soldiers in armed conflicts. At the same time, around 200 million people are affected by disasters every year, a third of whom are children, according to www.un.org.
"They kill, maim, injure, force people to flee their homes, destroy livelihoods, push people into poverty and starvation and trap people in situations where their basic human rights are violated". However, such help often keeps children out of school and thus outside the possibility of joining the modern sector of the economy. More than half of whom (497) were above the age of 15 years-above the legal limit, under the recent Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Amendment (CLPRA) Act, 2016. "According to a 2015 study by the ILO, it is estimated that 5.7 million 10-17 year olds, representing nearly 20% of all children in the age group are laborers".
Despite the enactment of clear laws against child labor, the plight of Pakistan's child laborers remains unaddressed due to the poor implementation of these laws.
Compounded by the abject poverty and malnutrition faced by millions of children across the country, the present state of children's rights presents a bleak picture, specifically with regard to the progress made in these key areas, they added.
ILO said it is working closely with government, employers' and workers' constituents, as well as with other global organizations, civil society and the media to support children affected by child labour in conflicts and disasters.
Child labour is one of the evil in the present society that dragging the growth of our country. "And we need to do it together".
"Much more needs to be done to share fairly the responsibility to protect refugees and, especially, to support those states on the front line in the affected regions, so that they can provide access to the labour market for adult refugees and access to education for their children".
In Geneva, the observance is being marked by an event at Michelangelo Pistoletto's "Rebirth" sculpture in Parc l'Ariana at the Palais des Nations as a part of the 106th Session of the International Labour Conference organised jointly by the United Nations Office, Geneva and Cittadellarte - Fondazione Pistoletto, reported International Labour Organization (ILO).
-As per HAQ: Center for Child Rights data, child labour is highest among Backward Classes such as OBCs, Muslims, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. 215 million are in child labor as a matter of survival.
