Mourinho has reportedly told Morata: "Come to Manchester United, you are going to be an important player here".
It looks like Morata will be a like-for-like replacement for the recently departed Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and the 24-year-old has hinted that Manchester United's transfer business could be a about to get even more interesting.
It would surpass the £50m Chelsea paid Liverpool for Fernando Torres.
The Swede is not expected to return to first-team football until January 2018, and United are not expected to offer him a one-year extension as a result, with his contract expiring at the end of June.
"Inter was in big trouble, Real Madrid was in big trouble, Manchester United in big trouble, that is, always in big trouble". There is still work to do on this deal, but it appears to be progressing well and it could be done before the beginning of pre-season.

Mourinho has guaranteed the striker of regular football, something Zinedine Zidane struggled with last season - despite Morata featuring over 40 times for Los Blancos. Although he wasn't first choice for Real Madrid, he played a significant role in the squad and scored 15 goals in La Liga. It may take him a few weeks to get to grips with the English game, but he does possess the physical attributes to thrive.
Those comments backfired on Mourinho when it emerged Smalling had a broken toe but played with the injury two weeks earlier at Chelsea, a 4-0 defeat when the defender needed two pain-killing injections to be involved.
Aside from the traditional avenues for transfer rumours, social media now plays a big part.
Mourinho helped United to clinch Europa League title which helped them to seal a place in the Champions League in his very first season as a coach.
