Third French death confirmed after London Bridge attack

United Kingdom security was on high alert following the attack at London Bridge, in which eight people were killed and over 50 others injured when three assailants mowed down pedestrians on the bridge and then launched a stabbing rampage at the nearby Borough Market. "How can you say something sensible about things that are absolutely senseless?"

Abedi killed 22 people and wounded more than 100 when he detonated a bomb at the crowded Manchester Arena, where U.S. pop star Ariana Grande had been performing.

The body was found late Tuesday about two kilometres (over one mile) downstream from London Bridge, where Saturday's van and knife attacks began. Police believe Butt was driving the van.

The attack, and prior attacks in Manchester and near Parliament in London, have prompted Prime Minister Theresa May to call for tougher counter-terrorism laws even if it means changing human rights protections. Detectives previously appealed for the public's help to locate Thomas, who had not been seen since the attack on Saturday.

"Formal identification has not yet taken place, however Thomas' next of kin have been informed of this development", the police said.

His girlfriend, who was hit by the vehicle, is seriously injured in hospital.

French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed Wednesday a third French victim had been identified, but did not name the person, according to The Associated Press.

It was not immediately clear how the three knew each other, but Collina said one of her son's friends recognized one of the other attackers, though it wasn't clear which one that was.

In a Facebook post, his sister Isabel wrote: "My brother Ignacio tried to stop the terrorist and lost his own life trying to save others". Relatives of Australian Sara Zelenak have confirmed she was another of the victims of the weekend attack.

One of those arrested is a man who allegedly worked out at the same gym as 27-year-old Khurum Butt, thought to be the attack ringleader.

The violence occurred on Saturday night in the Southwark area of London.

In a separate investigation not linked to the London Bridge attacks, officers backed up by armed police arrested three men in east London on Thursday on suspicion of preparing for acts of terrorism.
