Offs in the Middle East

Decades-long tension simmering between Qatar and its Persian Gulf neighbors - Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates - became a major crisis in the Middle East after an alleged fake news report run by Qatar's state-run news agency May 23 supported Iran and a US -designated terrorist organization.
Qatar can only be so mean to Iran, and the Saudis know this. He says the USA asks that there be "no further escalation". Jordan, like Oman and sometimes Kuwait, does not like to take sides in such inter-Arab conflicts but now it must follow "Baba Saudi", or "Father Saudi", a major economic partner and patron.
Qatar denies the allegations and has sent its top diplomat on a tour of European capitals in a bid to drum up support.
"The time had come to call on Qatar to end its funding - they have to end that funding - and its extremist ideology in terms of funding", Trump said.
Cavusoglu also said Turkey's military base in Qatar, where there are now around 90 Turkish soldiers based, was aimed at contributing to the security of the entire Gulf region and was not aimed at a specific Gulf state.
India also said that the countries should resolve their differences through dialogue. "Others must do more to eliminate support for violent extremists" within their own borders, Tillerson said, calling for "progress toward eliminating all forms of support for terrorism: military, financial, moral or ideological".
"Qatar has a history of supporting groups that span the spectrum of political expression, from activism to violence", Tillerson said.
In a phone call to the Qatari Emir, Trump offered to help broker peace following the diplomatic rift that emerged Monday when serval Arab nations cut ties with Doha.
In fact, the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani had on May 27 called to congratulate Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on his re-election. Sheikh Sabah aims resolving a diplomatic crisis between Qatar and other Arab nations.
The emirate is still home to leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood, the Palestinian Hamas and the Afghan Taliban. To Qatar, it is intolerable that a country will take the lives of its citizens at will just because they are considered to be in opposition, but to the Saudi coalition, by sheltering some members of the Brotherhood, Qatar is violating the internal rules of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf better known as the Gulf Cooperation Council, GCC.
This is why so many pundits regard the Saudi action against Qatar as the final nail in the coffin and an attempt to kill Qatar's independent and ambitious foreign policy objectives.
Slogans against and in support of Qatar in Arabic have dominated Twitter, which is hugely popular in the region, and have grown steadily more nationalistic and aggressive in tone.
Sheikh Sabah also has traveled to Saudi Arabia in his efforts.
Bahrain "stressed the necessity of Qatar's commitment to correct its policies and to engage in a transparent manner in counter-terrorism efforts", its official BNA news agency said.
The Saudi alliance is also working on other fronts to keep Iran economically isolated.
Addressing a White House news conference, the president said Qatar had "historically been a funder of terrorism at a very high level".
