Manchester United up the ante with £60m Alvaro Morata bid

Alvaro Morata's agent has told footmercato.net that the striker will leave Real Madrid this summer unless his demand to "play more" is met by the Champions League winners. "I would like to stay at Real Madrid, and the only club for me in Italy are Juventus".

It is believed that the club value Morata at €90m, significantly more than the €70m Manchester United are offering.

However, it looks like United have stolen a march on their rivals as Sky Sports News reported earlier this week that the Red Devils had tabled an opening offer worth £52.4m for Morata's services.

In a dramatic twist in this already busy summer transfer window, Alvaro Morata might not be the only Real Madrid player to be on his way to Manchester United. United had been linked with Romelu Lukaku, but the club have accepted that the Belgian is likely to join Chelsea, therefore they switched their focus to Morata.

While £60 million would still fall some way short of that enormous fee, it's a generous offer for a player who isn't a regular starter.

The Spain global has scored 20 goals in all competitions for Real last season, as the club clinched La Liga and the Champions League.

Morata scored 20 goals in all competitions for Zinedine Zidane's side last season as it won both the La Liga and the Champions League.

The striker's future has been thrown into question after a lack of game time at Old Trafford last season and he has a year left on his contract with the option of a further 12 months.

"Man United were interested in me but I wanted to play first-team football", he said in 2012.

"Maybe we'll be team-mates next year".

However with another World Cup on the horizon, Morata is keen to achieve regular game time to help secure his place within the Spanish national squad in Russian Federation next summer.
