Yoenis Cespedes to Be Activated from DL After Hamstring Injury

Cespedes played left field Thursday night for High Class-A St. Lucie, going 0-for-4 in the 1-0 loss in Lakeland.

The Mets have essentially fallen apart since the injury to Syndergaard. It's possible that the franchise is anxious about going through a repeat of the previous situation, where Cespedes went out on a rehab assignment and suffered a setback to his timetable.

Ruiz had a cooler filled with a sports drink poured on him during his postgame TV interview on the field, but he knew Swanson set up his game-winning hit.

The Mets are scheduled to play a doubleheader in Atlanta tomorrow, and it has been reported that Terry Collins plans on only using Cespedes in one of the two games.

Granderson's hold on a starting job could be on jeopardy when Yoenis Cespedes returns from the disabled list. It was his second hamstring injury in a week. His six home runs are tied for fifth-most on the team. The Wild Card race isn't any better, as the Mets trail the Los Angeles Dodgers (36-25) by nine games for the second slot.

Before Reyes left the Mets through free agency following the 2011 season, he remembers hearing about Flores' potential as an offensive player. He had a 0.270 batting average, a 0.992 OPS, and six home runs already.

"Right now we'll be a little careful with Cespedes", he said.

BP Mets dove into the offensive turnaround of Jay Bruce, who's cut down on weak ground ball contact this season.

And they will have to figure out a way to play Cespedes and keep him healthy.

Yoenis Cespedes, who has been on the disabled list since April 28 with hamstring issues, will be activated Saturday. Monday (June 12), when the Mets begin a home series against the Chicago Cubs, could be a possibility, but so could sometime this weekend against the Atlanta Braves.

Cespedes is in the second year of a massive contract that the Mets gave him following the 2015 Major League Baseball season.

Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes resumed his minor league injury rehabilitation assignment after a break of almost two weeks, going 0 for 4 while playing left field in St. Lucie's 1-0 loss at Lakeland in the Florida State League on Thursday.
