Some of the governors are part of a group that also includes companies, mayors and university presidents that are planning to present a plan to the United Nations that would meet the greenhouse-gas emission targets under the Paris climate agreement that President Trump pulled the US out of on Thursday, The New York Times reported.
United States ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has said that the U.S. did not need India, China or France telling them what to do about climate change, PTI reported on Monday. The administration is working to dismantle former President Barack Obama's Clean Power Plan, which is meant to regulate electricity plants and help the United States meet its promise to cut emissions by more than a quarter from 2005 levels. "Just because the U.S. got out of a club doesn't mean we aren't going to care about the environment", she said.
Although the formal process to withdraw from the Paris agreement takes four years, Trump said the United States will not honor the pledge the Obama administration submitted, known as the nationally determined contribution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 26-28 percent below 2005 levels by the year 2025.
"I think children know more about this subject than some of the people advising the president", Pelosi said.

It is unclear whether Trump believes the climate is changing.

Trump's decision has left the United States virtually isolated on the world stage, and his insistence that he will seek to "renegotiate" the global accord has done little to ease a wave of bitter condemnation.
"Honestly, I haven't asked him that", he said.
Europe, China stands united against Trump's decision to take U.S. out of Paris climate change pact. The rest of the world wanted to tell us how we do it.
