Sound like bunk? Sure.
The Rockies won their NL-leading 40th game of the 2017 season with a 5-3 decision over the Chicago Cubs Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field. The next-best mark was in 2007, when they were 39-42 and went on to take the National League pennant.
Colorado manager Bud Black was diplomatic when asked about Bellino's curious strike zone. In one of the most freakish games in recent memory, the Rox battled the umpire both on the mound and at the plate, some rare defensive miscues, and some pesky defending champs who seemed to draw out every at-bat as though their lives depended on it. "Right from the get-go, our starter had a tough first inning".
When Greg Holland came on in the bottom of the ninth, it was immediately apparent that he didn't have his best stuff.
The Cubs' signing of Anderson in the offseason and trades for Montgomery and Butler in the past year were decisions made with depth in mind after the rotation has been almost injury-free the past two season.
This is the formula the Rockies have followed all season. "But you know, that's baseball".
The Rockies improved to 22-10 on the road, which calls for some more perspective.
The bullpen bailed out the Rockies again on Friday in 5-3 win as five relievers limited the Cubs to one hit.
Hanigan hasn't done much with the bat this year, but he has managed to drive in some clutch runs that have affected the outcomes of several games.
"We'll just treat him normally and get him back on the field", Maddon said.
The obvious question is to wonder how this is happening.
"With all the type of development that's happening, we need to have a comprehensive, thorough security plan and all the infrastructure investments along with that security plan to meet a new facility that you've invested in. We expect to win road, home, whatever". I'm pretty sure that's nearly exactly what D.J.
Montgomery will start Friday's game against the Rockies.
Blackmon is batting.336 overall and has hit safely in 23 of his past 26 games for an average of.398 over that span. "We have to get greedy and try to win as many as we can while we're playing well". Different guys come up big on different days. The Rockies are pretty good! The home ERA (4.83) ranks eighth in franchise history.
When Montgomery starts, it changes the bullpen equation and hurts the left-handed depth among relievers for manager Joe Maddon, who turns to Brian Duensing as his only southpaw then. "Yesterday's game was an example". Marquez was initially scheduled to pitch in Thursday's series opener, but the Rockies want to give his bruised right thumb one more day to heal. On a day when explosive offensive outings seemed likely, no runs were scored after the second inning. I think the Rockies offense has the edge here, though, so give me Colorado for the win. If so, it's working.
"We've been around some losing seasons", LeMahieu said. The impact is evident in the struggles of the starting rotation.
"We've been raising security issues related to the ballpark for years, including closing down Addison and Clark".
Maybe it holds up, or maybe it doesn't. And if we can win this division, we've got a chance after that in October.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Friday upped the ante in his security battle with the Cubs, demanding that a team spending millions to build private clubs for season ticket holders invest in security around Wrigley Field. You can draw your own conclusions from that, but, suffice to say, it's an awfully exciting time to be a Colorado Rockies fan.
