How does Attorney General Jeff Sessions fit into the Comey controversy?

President Trump said Friday he would be willing to testify under oath about his interactions with former FBI Director James Comey, whom he fired in May.

Among his disagreements with Comey, Trump said he never asked Comey for an oath of loyalty.

In a joint press conference with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, Donald Trump faced reporters' questions on Comey's Thursday testimony about Trump's alleged involvement with the Russian Federation investigation.

Trump has hired Kasowitz to handle matters related to various investigations of Russian interference in the US president election, freeing his White House counsel to handle other government-related matters.

Standing with Iohannis, a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation partner, Trump at last confirmed his commitment to the alliance's mutual defense pact, Article 5, uttering words he deliberately did not say when he spoke at NATO's gathering in Belgium last month.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer challenged Trump to release tapes the president once alluded to in a tweet.

Comey admitted in his sworn testimony that he had asked a friend to leak notes he kept detailing his meetings with Trump to a reporter.

Earlier on Friday, Mr Trump tweeted that Mr Comey had given him "vindication" in the Russian Federation investigation.

During Thursday's Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, Comey said he felt the president's request to let the Flynn investigation go amounted to a direct order.

Comey made his comments as the packed hearing got under way, bringing Washington and parts of the country to a halt as all eyes were glued on the hearing room.

Chairman Richard Burr, a Republican from North Carolina, said, "I trust James Comey" and does not believe he lied. Sen.

"There might be corroboration of our conversation, there might be a tape", Comey said.

Speaking at the White House, he denied having asked for Mr Comey's loyalty or for an inquiry into a former White House aide to be dropped.

The former top G-Man said the leak was spurred by an ominous sounding Trump tweet.

"I hardly know the man", Trump said on Friday. "Play the tapes for all of America to hear", he said.

Trump has remained relatively media shy since the Justice Department tapped former FBI Director Robert Mueller to be the special counsel looking into Russia's meddling into the 2016 election and the Trump campaign's possible ties to it.

Trump branded Comey a "leaker" for indirectly providing to reporters the contents of memos he wrote after their private conversations. "We should stop talking about obstruction of justice", Mr Dershowitz said, linking to an interview he gave to Fox News.

According to Comey's memos, Trump told him during a private dinner at the White House on January 27 that he needed and expected the director's loyalty.

"Now I did not obey that but that is the way I took it", Comey testified.
