Apple HomePod Speaker Announced At WWDC

Although the two companies will soon be at war in the speaker market, they seem to have reached a detente on other fronts.

Apple HomePod will initially be available only in US, UK and Australia starting December, and in the US it will retail for $349 (approximately Rs 22,500).

Users will be able to ask Siri to play songs and answer questions via the speaker.

Augmented reality is coming to hundreds of millions of iOS devices with a new platform for developers to build apps that let users place virtual content on top of real-world scenes.

Apple's HomePod speakers won't be arriving before fall. The Siri speaker reached an advanced prototype stage late previous year, Bloomberg News reported at the time.

Apple Pay: It's expanding to include peer-to-peer payments. An iPad with a larger, sharper screen. "This elegantly designed, compact speaker totally rocks the house", said the company. Companies developer conference typically showcases software improvements, but this time the company has come up with a lot of new hardware.

At more than double the cost of Amazon's Echo, the HomePod is a typical Apple move.

Apple has finally joined the smart speaker fray, following the tack of fellow tech giants Amazon and Google. Put simply: A $349 speaker that puts Siri in the backseat is a odd product to lead that initiative, especially when people are snapping up Echo Dots in three-packs that are still less than half the HomePod's asking price.

As a home assistant, HomePod is a great way to send messages, get updates on news, sports and weather, or control smart home devices by simply asking Siri to turn on the lights, close the shades or activate a scene.

First up is the fact that the Hi-Fi is really old, technologically speaking.

As for when an iPhone will be able to deliver an augmented reality experience, the only hint at timing from WWDC was when a representative from director Peter Jackson's Wingnut AR studios showcased an AR gaming demo that he said would arrive later in the year. So, the first thing we need is an adapter, like this $14 Scosche one, which allows you to use later, USB charging-based iPod and iPhone devices with older Firewire docks.

And Apple will have a new "do not disturb" mode for driving. For that price, you could pick up a Sonos speaker and a couple of Echo Dots - and still have some cash left over for a nice dinner, to boot.

The watchOS 4 brings more intelligence and fitness features to Apple Watch.

Experts anticipate that Apple will pull the covers off a significantly revamped iPhone at its annual event in September, likely named not the 8 but the X, or 10, in a nod to the 10th anniversary of the iPhone's debut in 2007.

Along the same lines, the iPad's multitasking capabilities are also getting a major upgrade, thanks to the new App Switcher feature.

Machine learning was a repeated buzzword throughout the keynote. Called High Sierra, it recognizes more faces automatically, which should make it easier to organize photos, and will offer more photo editing tools.

Apple hopes that more advanced acoustics technology will give the speaker an edge over competitors, according to people with knowledge of the product's development. Timothy D. Cook, the company's chief executive said, "Pushing the device further than it ever has before".
