How does it line up?
The HomePod speaker stands just under seven inches (18 cm) tall and is covered in fabric mesh that will come in white or gray. "HomePod packs powerful speaker technology, Siri intelligence and wireless access to the entire Apple Music library into a handsome speaker that is less than 7 inches tall, can rock most any room with distortion-free music and be a helpful assistant around your home".
Still, it has several similarities with the other home-assistant offerings.
There are spec differences too: HomePod features 7 tweeters, a 4-inch woofer, a 6-microphone array and an Apple A8 chip processor, while Echo features a 2.0-inch tweeter, a 2.5-inch woofer, a 7-microphone array and a Texas Instruments processor.
Apple has also introduced new Mac's ensuring that the complaints regarding Mac's being left behind is not the case anymore. They are selling this as a speaker first, one that they think will kill Sonos in quality, while offering up Siri integration as a bonus.
Still, the HomePod costs a bit more than numerous traditional speakers with which it wants to compete.
For one, Apple has locked itself into a design for the device, so they can't really make any major changes at this point.
So is Apple HomePod a game changer?
At just under 7 inches tall, HomePod can be placed nearly anywhere in the home and is available in white and space gray.
Apple's HomePod, which will be available for purchase in December, is priced at $349.
However, it still lacks some features that Amazon and Google's products already have.
Among the updates was increased intelligence and better understanding of context, Apple said - for example automatically offering to add items to a calendar when event tickets are booked. Further, iPhone users may naturally prefer to remain in the Apple ecosystem and opt for a Home Pod, shrinking Amazon's market share.
