Comey said he interpreted Trump's wording "I hope you can let this go" about the Flynn investigation as a direction.
Describing Mr Comey's actions as "retaliatory", Mr Kasowitz said: "We will leave it the appropriate authorities to determine whether this leaks should be investigated along with all those others being investigated". Citing a White House meeting where Trump cleared the Oval Office of all people except him, Comey said he thought: "Something big was about to happen, and I need to remember every word spoken". "I was so stunned by the conversation I just took it in". However, Comey would not discuss whether the president colluded with Russian Federation during the election saying, "I don't think I should answer in an open setting".
That conversation took place after Trump had fired Flynn for misleading Vice President Mike Pence about the nature of his conversations with Russian Ambassador Sergey Lavrov.
As Comey was testifying, Trump, in a speech across town, told supporters their movement was "under siege" and vowed to fight on. 'We will not back down from doing what is right.we know how to fight and we will never give up'.
"And with the special investigation going on, this is a real potential turning point for President Trump", Jowers said on KSL Newsradio's "The Doug Wright Show".
Trump and White House spokespeople denied this allegation. He never said it in form and he never said it in substance.
"And knowing how President Trump is, they ring very true", Jowers said.
When Comey abruptly lost his job, the FBI was investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election and possible ties between the president's associates and Russia.
RICHARD BURR: Director, when the president requested that you - and I quote - "let Flynn go", General Flynn had an unreported contact with the Russians, which is an offense and if press accounts are right, there might have been discrepancies between facts and his Federal Bureau of Investigation testimony.
Comey said at the end of his testimony to the committee that he believed he was sacked by Trump in an effort to affect the Russian Federation investigation.
Comey said his practice of keeping written meeting records began after his encounter with Trump before the inauguration.
Comey said in his testimony that he leaked his memos of his conversations with the president to a friend after a tweet by the president suggested he may have taped the conversations.
