Man charged with battery in racially charged incident at Starbucks

William Boucher, 23, faces three misdemeanor battery charges, Chicago police told ABC7 Eyewitness News, stemming from a caught-on-tape incident at a local Starbucks Tuesday, June 6.

The apparent cause of the argument was that a black man had spilled coffee on Boucher's light-colored suit. He began ranting and punching; when a Starbucks employee tried to intervene, Boucher took his tirade outside.

The situation spilled onto the sidewalk, where Boucher spat on a man, 30, and woman, 34, police said. The man, who has been identified as 23-year-old William Boucher, used the terms "slave" and "disposable vermin", among other offensive language, during his outburst.

Boucher started to leave the scene but not before he sucker punched someone who appeared to be a homeless man. The man was taken to the hospital for an eye injury, according to ABC 7 Chicago.

Boucher then goes on to compare the man to livestock and suggests that he should be tagged with a bar code with his Social Security number.

"Shut up, slave. Do not talk to me", Boucher said to a second unidentified black man who approached him, the video shows.

"Your children are disposable vermin", Boucher said to the unidentified black man before walking away. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 5.

The man Boucher spits at, however, is not having any of it and rushes up to Boucher, but is held back by another bystander.

"Calling people racist slurs when I was coming to work, I was not expecting to see that", Juan Torres, who works at the Starbucks where the incident happened, said.

Outside the store, Boucher walked up to an unidentified black man who, in addition to the WLS photographer, was videotaping the incident.

Starbucks employees and bystanders attempted to get him out of the store as he shouted derogatory statements such as, "Get on all fours right now!" Don't walk away on two legs!'

Punches are nearly exchanged until a bystander breaks up the altercation and Boucher (far right) shouts at the two 'Get on all fours right now!

Witnesses tackled Boucher until police arrived.
