Fired FBI director Comey 'asked not to be left alone with Trump'

The astonishing new report, which cites two two sources, said Trump repeatedly attacked Sessions over his decision to step back from the Department of Justice probe.

"I have not had a discussion with him about that", Spicer replied when asked how much confidence Trump has in Sessions by ABC's Jonathan Karl.

That Trump ranks Sessions taking himself out of the direct line of fire as one of his "top disappointments" is yet more evidence that Trump isn't any better at weighing his real issues than he is at anything else.

The decision was prompted by Sessions' failure to disclose conversations with Russia's ambassador to the United States during his confirmation hearing.

Others have made the same prediction, saying that Donald Trump will likely resign when the pressure of the investigations grows too great.

Trump ultimately refused Sessions' offer, which came just before Trump embarked on his first worldwide trip in late May, according to a person who regularly speaks with Sessions. The Times previously reported a growing discontent between the two men stemming from the attorney general's decision to recuse himself from the FBI's investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Comey, CNBC reports, has refused to answer various questions about the investigation into Michael Flynn, who resigned a million years ago.

Trump was caught off-guard by Sessions' recusal and learned of it "when he was in the middle of another event", Times reporters Peter Baker and Maggie Haberman wrote.

Meanwhile, White House press secretary Sean Spicer was asked today if the president still has confidence in his attorney general. "They hate that I can get the honest and unfiltered message out"."Many of us, on one or more occasions, have harmed ourselves with a tweet".

"We were aware of facts that I can't discuss in an open setting that would make his continued engagement in a Russia-related investigation problematic", Comey said.

Sessions has come under fire from the president over his recusal from an investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 USA election, an inquiry that's now exploring whether Trump associates colluded with Moscow.

Trump's state of mind has been revealed in recent days in a series of furious tweets about the Russian Federation investigation, the media, his demands for the courts to stop blocking his travel ban and the London terror attack.
