Free Krispy Kreme treat for National Doughnut Day

In celebration of National Donut Day, The Salvation Army is working with all of the major donut shops in Anchorage Friday, where you'll find the iconic red donation kettle and canned food donation boxes.

The unofficial holiday started in 1938 when the Salvation Army wanted to do something to honor its "Doughnut Girls" according to the organization's website.

As part of the commemoration, Salvation Army Thrift stores in Hawai'i will provide free donuts and coffee from 10 a.m. until noon, while supplies last.

Entenmann's, instead of a daily deal, is hosting a sweepstakes from May 17 through July 15, with winners eligible for free doughnuts for an entire year. Unless we're talking about free donuts, that is.

Some, such as Dunkin' Donuts and Cumberland Farms, require the purchase of a beverage to get the freebie.

The Salvation Army teamed up with Sandy's Donuts and gave out free coffee and donuts at the Fargo Theatre to law enforcement, firefighters, veterans and emergency responders.

"We'll be donating a lot of doughnuts to the Salvation Army who will be delivering doughnuts to community organizations".
