Following incidents of vandalism at the offices of the BJP in Kerala, allegedly by Left parties, a dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the BJP in Thiruvananthapuram started on Thursday morning. However, in some place, KSRTC conducted services on convey basis. police said So far no untoward incident was reported from any part of the district in connection with the hartal, police said. BJP alleged the attack was the CPM's tit-for-tat for the violence perpetrated on its general secretary Sitaram Yechury at the AKG Bhavan in New Delhi.
There was a huge protest march organised by the CPI (M) in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday evening against the attempt to manhandle Yechury.
The CPI (M) was also observing a State-wide protest day against the attack on their General Secretary. Schools and educational institutions also did not function in the district. Bike-borne miscreants hurled petrol bombs at the BJP's district committee office in Thiruvananthapuram. Police said reports of destruction of BJP flag poles had come in from places such as Aruvikkara, Parassala and Kallara.
Rajesh said if the chief minister didn't intervene to rein in the violent protestors, the BJP would organise strong agitations all over Kerala against the CPM attacks.
