As the name suggests, the software isn't a complete overhaul.
The updated notebook product lineup goes on sale in the US starting today.
Both Apple's laptop and desktop lines have been given refreshes by Apple. We're now testing the Core m3 version of the MacBook and will report on benchmark and battery life results in a future full review. All of the devices will be shipping from today and in stores from June 7. For the first time ever on a Mac, iMac Pro features 10Gb Ethernet for up to 10 times faster networking. They have higher memory capacities, faster storage, and Thunderbolt 3 capacity.
Apple also promised performance of up to 22 teraflops. The new iMac's will also get the High Sierra update this fall.
The device starts at $4,999 and will be available in December. The iMac Pro will start at $4,999. Apple is also working on a completely redesigned next-generation Mac Pro, which is separate from this product.
"We reengineered the whole system and designed an entirely new thermal architecture to pack extraordinary performance into the elegant, quiet iMac enclosure our customers love - iMac Pro is a huge step forward and there's never been anything like it,"said John Ternus, Apple's vice president of Hardware Engineering".
The 21.5-inch iMac is getting faster Iris Plus 640 integrated graphics via the Kaby Lake upgrade, with a new option for discrete Radeon Pro 500 series graphics. The 21.5-inch model is said to be three times faster, while the 27-inch model is reportedly 50 per cent faster. It also is available in a handsome new space gray color.
While the 10.5ins iPad Pro has the same 12 megapixel rear-facing camera as the old model, Apple has bumped the front-facing camera to a seven-megapixel sensor over the 9.7ins version's five-megapixels.
These laptops weigh 2lbs and are 13.1mm thin. It now costs $1,299 instead of $1,499, making it a little bit more tempting to skip the MacBook Air altogether.
When the MacBook Pro series adopted a similar flat keyboard previous year, it at least had an improved Butterly mechanism (the x-shaped trigger under the individual keys on the keyboard), which made the typing experience feel more substantial, even if some people still preferred the old-style traditional MacBook Pro keyboard. Two Thunderbolt 3 ports will be available.
Apple just unveiled the iMac Pro on Monday. Also, the screens are brighter at 600 nits, and use the P3 wide-colour gamut and are even less reflective than before.
Graphics are driven by the new AMD Radeon Vega GPU with up to 16 GB of on-package HBM2 memory and performance of up to 11 teraflops (single precision).
Built for folks who need to push the limit of their regular computers, and who would normally consider the Mac Pro if it weren't for the fact that it hasn't changed in a while (and is awkward to upgrade, not to mention that price...), the iMac Pro takes high-end tech and throws it into the body of an iMac, pushing that limit once more and giving pro-grade users something with more grunt to work with.
